Branagh attends Premiere in Gorseinon

A TOUCH of Hollywood glamour was brought to a quiet Welsh street at the weekend when one of the smallest cinemas in the world closed its doors for the last time.

Hollywood actor and film director Kenneth Branagh walked up the red carpet for the final film at La Charrette, the cinema housed in an old railway wagon in Gorseinon, Swansea.
The tiny, 23-seat cinema hosted a world premiere to bow out with acclaimed director Danny Boyle’s highly rated Alien Love Triangle.

Branagh, who stars in the film with ex-Friends star Courteney Cox, said, “This is fantastic. It is a romantic idea and a symbol for why people go to the cinema.”
Walking into the atmospheric cinema, the Belfast-born star said, “This is like the street I grew up on, so I feel completely at home.”
Branagh, who wore a tuxedo for the event and was sporting a moustache, described Alien Love Triangle as a “lost film” by one of “our greatest directors”.
He added, “After 10 years and having seen an uncompleted version of it, I’m slightly nervous about it. I hope people like it. I hope the rest of the world gets to see it.”
Saturday night’s premiere and La Charrette’s finale, which was a black tie affair, was put together by BBC2 film critic Mark Kermode.

Castro's Letter.....some extracts.......

The following are excerpts from the messageby Castro to the people of Cuba........., translated by BBC Monitoring:

"Dear compatriots,
I promised you on 15 February that in my next reflections I would touch on a subject of interest for many compatriots. This time that reflection takes the form of a message...
I held the honourable position of president for a period of many years... Before that I had held the post of prime minister for nearly 18 years. I always exercised the necessary prerogatives to carry forward our revolutionary work with the support of the vast majority of the people.
Knowing about my critical state of health, many people overseas thought that my provisional resignation from the post of president of the Council of State on 31 July 2006, leaving it in the hands of the First Vice-President, Raul Castro, was definitive. Raul himself, who also holds the post of minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces on his own merit, and my other comrades in the party leadership and the state, were reluctant to think of me removed from my posts despite my precarious state of health...
Preparing the people for my psychological and political absence was my primary obligation after so many years of struggle. I never ceased to say that we were dealing with a recuperation that was "not free from risk". My desire was always to carry out my duties until my final breath. That is what I have to offer.
To my close compatriots, who did me the immense honour in recent days of electing me as a member of parliament, I tell you that I will not aspire to or accept - I repeat - I will not aspire to or accept the post of president of the Council of State and commander-in-chief.
The path will always be difficult and will require the intelligent strength of all of us... Always prepare for the worst scenario. 'Be as prudent in success as you stand firm in adversity' is a principle that must not be forgotten. The adversary we must defeat is extremely strong, but we have kept him at bay for half a century.
I do not bid you farewell. My only wish is to fight as a soldier of ideas. I will continue to write under the title 'Reflections of comrade Fidel'. It will be another weapon in the arsenal on which you will be able to count. Perhaps my voice will be heard. I will be careful."

Castro resigns himself to smoking cigars and not much else!

Well ~ he had to go sometime. Nearly 50 years as Dictator of a pretty impoverished state, he's certainly left his mark........Cuba is run-down, lacking freedoms for its peoples, terror-led still. Not a nice place to live.
Perhaps now, this Dictator will at last leave Govenment to the people.

Happy Valentine's day.......

HHHHHMMMMMMMnnnnnnnn!!!!!

Happy Valentine

Yael Naim - New Soul lyrics
I'm a new soul I came to this strange world hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take. But since I came hereFelt the joy and the fearFinding myself making every possible mistake
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
I'm a young soul in this very strange world hoping I could learn a bit about what is true and fake. But why all this hate? Try to communicate.Finding trust and love is not always easy to make.
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
This is a happy end cause' you don't understand everything you have done why's everything so wrong
This is a happy end come and give me your hand I'll take your far away.
[Refrain]:I'm a new soul I came to this strange world hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take But since I came here fellt the joy and the fear finding myself making every possible mistake
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

This is the plonker who can't keep the Anglican church together, is fighting the rights of gay people to have a full part in their churches in USA, and now wants to interfere in the way British law is applied in the UK.

I'd say No to his proposals over Sharia law. On what planet does this guy live?

Manchester ~ The day of the funeral

Many of the Busby babes died in the crash at Munich.......I was 15 at the time and remember it well.

Munich Air Disaster ~ Busby babes killed

The Munich air disaster took place on 6 February 1958, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at the Munich-Riem airport in Munich, West Germany. On board the plane was the Manchester United football team, nicknamed the Busby Babes, along with a number of supporters and journalists. Twenty-three of the 44 passengers on board the aircraft died in the disaster.

We pay tribute to them today.

World Class

Khan heads for world dominance with another convincing win under his belt.

Oh February gets better and better.......

Febian such a flippin’ good fellow

Feb 3 2008
Wales On Sunday

SO much for the dreaded manager-of-the-month curse.
If Swansea boss Roberto Martinez believes the award may have already denied his side this season, super-sub Febian Brandy ended any such thoughts of history repeating itself.
The on-loan striker popped up with the 85th minute winner to inch Swansea closer to the Championship – and give his parent club the perfect birthday present the day before his 19th birthday.
After the Swans had twice somehow dropped points following Martinez’s previous monthly managerial gongs, Brandy netted just 45 seconds after leaping off the bench to ensure it wouldn’t be third time unlucky yesterday.
It was harsh on an organised Oldham side who had done enough to take a point, but Martinez’s men won’t give a jot this morning as they maintained their 10-point lead at the top.
Oldham’s away form, with nine games unbeaten on the road prior to their visit to the Liberty Stadium, suggested this would be no easy task. And so it proved as runaway leaders Swansea huffed and puffed and struggled to break down a resolute Latics outfit.
After Garry McDonald had diverted Jason Scotland’s low cross into his own net to break the visitors’ resistance, Craig Davies levelled up matters from the spot.
But just as the game was heading for a draw, Manchester United striker Brandy popped up with the vital winner as Swansea’s march to promotion continued.
On a freezing day, Swansea were second best for long periods and Lewis Alessandra’s 25-yard shot, which flew inches past Dorus De Vries’ near post, set the tone as the visitors began the game in bright fashion.
The Swans struggled to find any rhythm on a bobbly pitch. Passes went astray and shots were blocked as the runaway leaders searched for inspiration.
It was an uncharacteristic, sloppy and lethargic first-half showing as Swansea lacked energy in their play.
In fact, it took until the 38th minute until the Oldham defence was troubled. A drab first half saw Andy Robinson and Leon Britton drill crosses dangerously across the Oldham six-yard box. But that’s the best they could muster as Swansea never got going.
The Swans seemed to be missing the pace of Paul Anderson as they struggled to break down a resolute Oldham defence.
And with recalled Wales striker Davies giving Marcos Painter a tough time down the right flank, Swansea could never rest easy at the back.
The second half began in similar fashion to how the first ended, with a scrappy and disjointed match seeing little goalmouth action of note.
Roberto Martinez threw on striker Guillem Bauza in a bid to spice up his attack, but it was Oldham who came closest to scoring after 58 minutes.
A spell of pressure from the visitors saw the ball fall kindly to McDonald, only for Dennis Lawrence bravely to put his body on the line and block the shot.
The incident seemed to liven the crowd up in freezing conditions, as Scotland saw a rare sight of goal sniffed out by the alert goalkeeping of Crossley.
The veteran Welsh international should have been further troubled in the 65th minute when Ferrie Bodde broke from midfield, but the Dutchman could only fire woefully wide when well placed.
But it wasn’t long before the Swans, who were finally finding their feet, took the lead through McDonald’s own-goal.
Scotland’s run and cross saw the midfielder slide in to clear but could only divert the ball into the empty net.
It was the slice of luck Swansea needed and forced Oldham to come out in search of a leveller.
But it only provided space for Swansea to exploit, with Andy Robinson’s darting run and shot stretching Crossley.
Oldham still looked dangerous on the attack and a mix-up between Angel Rangel and Garry Monk saw Davies nip in before being tripped by Bodde.
It was a reckless tackle from the full back and Swansea could have no complaints when Davies sent Dorus De Vries the wrong way from the spot.
It was a sweet moment for the ex-Wolves striker, who had been barracked by the home fans after an earlier tussle with Bodde.
Swansea threw bodies forward in search of the winner, and it duly arrived with just five minutes remaining when Brandy picked up the loose ball before drilling the ball home. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t always entertaining but it sure was a vital win.

Will France do it?????

Will France do it ?
